Lactic Acid is a OTC chemical exfoliant that comes from the fermentation of lactose, a carbohydrate found in milk. It is a widely used ingredient in numerous skincare products, and its usage dates back to ancient Egypt. It is produced by a fermentation process using cornstarch or beet sugar.
Lactic Acid belongs to the alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) family, that comprises of water-soluble organic compounds. Besides signifimaytly improving the appearance of the skin, Lactic Acid helps keep it naturally hydrated. It increases cell turnover and helps eliminate accumulated dead skin cells on the epidermis.
